Hydrogen-/battery-based resilient chemical energy storage development (HyBReED)
Project Leader: Assoc. Prof. Dr Blaž Likozar (National Institute of Chemistry)
Investigator: Assoc. Prof. Dr Gregor Dolanc and Prof. Dr Alenka Vesel (Jozef Stefan Institute)

The HyBReED program is focused on introducing sustainable solutions in the fields of hydrogen, batteries, and industrial transition, contributing to the further development of sustainable energy systems. Its main objective is to strengthen the energy sector by developing advanced methods for efficient hydrogen production, storage, and utilization, with particular emphasis on energy-intensive industries, in line with the European Green Deal, REPowerEU, and the EU climate neutrality targets. Within this framework, the Department of Surface Engineering at JSI focuses on developing an innovative method for hydrogen storage by converting hydrogen to ammonia via plasma-based processes, thereby advancing sustainable, energy-efficient pathways for hydrogen handling, transport, and integration into industrial applications.
